Degrees in Spain

In Spain, undergraduate degrees, known as “grado,” are offered by traditional universities (universidades) and technical universities (universidades politécnicas). These programs offer bachelor’s degrees such as Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Arts (BA), and specialised degrees like Bachelor of Engineering (BEng).

Spanish is the main teaching language at higher education institutions in Spain. However, the availability of programs taught in English is growing, particularly in disciplines like business, engineering, and social sciences.

How to Apply for a Degree in Spain

International students should apply directly to the university. The application process may vary between universities, but it generally requires students to submit academic transcripts (which may need to be translated into Spanish), a personal statement or motivation letter, and a CV.

Proof of language proficiency is required. For English-taught programs, tests such as IELTS or TOEFL are commonly accepted. For programs taught in Spanish, students may need to demonstrate their Spanish language skills through exams like the DELE. Academic requirements for admission can vary by program and may include specific qualifications, GPA scores, or entrance exams.

Undergraduate Tuition Fees for International Students

Tuition fees for international students in Spain are relatively moderate compared to other Western European countries. International students can expect to pay between €750 and €2,500 per academic year at public universities. EU/EEA students often benefit from the same tuition fees as Spanish students, which are generally lower.

A variety of scholarships and financial aid options are available for international students in Spain, provided by universities, regional governments, and the Spanish government. These financial aids are intended to support international students and make higher education in Spain more accessible.
