Gender Studies as an academic field looks at analysing gender identity and the representation of genders in society and cultures. Although gender studies originated in the discipline of women's studies, it has developed to also include the study of queer studies and men's studies. Gender studies has become more popular as a discipline to be studied in higher education over the last couple of decades, and continues to develop as new generations become cognisant of the role they play in society.
During a masters in gender studies you will be able to build on the knowledge gained at undergraduate level. Topics you cover might include:
- Gender and Development
- Gender, Sexuality and Law
- Queer, Trans and Disability Studies
- Feminism, Identity and Media
- Hate Crime and Sexual Violence
