Entry requirements
We welcome motivated and ambitious students who are actively developing themselves and are aware of their position and role in society. In order to be successful in this programme you will need a solid academic basis in, for instance, (International) Business Administration, Economics, Industrial Engineering & Management or related disciplines. Typically, students in this programme are successful if they have an intrinsic curiosity for financial decision making and for financial markets and if they have obtained their Bachelor's degree with above average grades for courses in the areas of Financial Management, Financial Markets & Institutions, Corporate Finance or Accounting.
In order to gain admission to our Master's programme, you need to have at least a Bachelor's degree from an accredited research university including at least three full years of academic study amounting to a minimum of 180 EC or equivalent. We do not require a GRE or GMAT test score. You need to have successfully completed courses and studied literature related to the core of this programme, consisting of (or equivalents of):
- Financial Management - Berk, J. and P. DeMarzo, Corporate Finance, Pearson. Latest edition.
- or Brealey, R.A. & Myers, S.C. and F. Allen, Principles of Corporate Finance, Mcgraw-Hill. Latest edition.
- Financial Markets and Institutions - Mishkin, F.S. and S.G. Eakins, Financial Markets and Institutions, Pearson. Latest edition.
- Business Statistics - Berenson, M.L., Levine, D. M. & Krehbiel, T. C., Basic Business Statistics, Pearson. Latest edition.
- Accounting Knowledge - Bhimani, Horngren, Datar and Rajan, Management and Cost Accounting, 6th edition. and Aerts, W. and Walton, P., Global Financial Accounting & Reporting: Principles and analysis, Cengage. Latest edition.
Furthermore students need to show:
- Outstanding performance in the completed preceding Bachelor's programme.
- Strong motivation and commitment to the high study load of 84 EC in one year.
General English language proficiency requirements
VU Amsterdam requires all applicants to take an English test. You can, however, begin your application without having the test results. Exceptions are made for students who have completed a bachelor or master in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia.
The minimum English language proficiency requirements for admission to this master programme are:
- IELTS: 6.5 overall
- TOEFL Internet-based test: 92 overall
- Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): A, B, C
- Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): A, B, C
