Why study this program?
All students in the Elementary degree program are enrolled in a Generalist program that prepares you to instruct all of the required elementary-school subjects. Unlike Secondary Education, you will not select a major in a specific area of study.
Why study Elementary Education at the University of Alberta?
Teaching is a calling, and elementary education is a truly special career. Our Bachelor of Education (Elementary) degree in the Faculty of Education prepares you to facilitate the learning of all children from Kindergarten to Grade 6 within our diverse and multicultural society.
The Elementary Education program includes a five-week Introductory Professional Term (IPT) and a nine-week Advanced Professional Term (APT). This degree can be taken as a four-year program or as an after-degree. Upon completion of this program, you will earn a Bachelor of Education degree (BEd) and be recommended for teacher certification in Alberta.
Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (ATEP)
The Aboriginal Teacher Education Program is a specialized route for Indigenous students to a Bachelor of Education (Elementary) degree.
ATEP offers flexible course offerings in both in-person and online formats, and students can study full-time and part-time to ensure their education fits their lifestyle. To be considered for admission, students must meet the specific entrance requirements and follow all application instructions for the cohort they are applying to.

The University of Alberta offers a wide ranges of scholarships to international students. You will be evaluated for these scholarships when you apply for admission. Your eligibility will be based on your high school admission average at the time of your admission offer. We'll assess you for a match to the following three scholarships. If you are eligible for an admission-based scholarship we will contact you directly!
You can also apply for scholarships based on your application, including the President’s International Distinction Scholarship, awarded annually to 25 international students, worth up to CAN $120,000.
