About Political Science, BA (Hons) - at Richmond, The American International University in London

Richmond is a unique university in which to study Humanities and Social Sciences. When our students arrive in London, they have many questions which relate to issues of identity, culture, language, religion, society, citizenship, history and consumption - all of which Richmond’s Department of Humanities and Social Sciences addresses in its undergraduate programs.

The Political Science program includes a foundation in political theory and comparative politics, followed by studies of a range of political phenomena (democracy, nationalism and citizenship) and institutions (the British parliamentary system, the European Community, etc). The capstone course involves analysis and discussion of both classical and contemporary political theory. Average classes at Richmond are both much smaller and much more ethnically diverse than at most other universities. With a typical Junior or Senior level class size of between ten to twenty students, we emphasize individual attention, small group work, student participation, personal research paper writing and seminar-style discussion. The Political Science major provides a basis for careers in law, public administration, corporate and current affairs, and journalism as well as graduate study in the field. Richmond graduates have gained entry to leading graduate schools all over the world, and have been working for international organizations, government agencies, the diplomatic service, and international business.
