About Clinical Drug Development, MSc - at Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL)

Course descriptionThese are two postgraduate courses with a shared common core, which cover the key areas of expertise needed for a successful clinical research programme. The modular nature of the courses is designed to fit in with the needs of those students who are in full-time employment. The taught element of the modules will be delivered in three-day blocks every six weeks. The courses provide you with skills in the organisation and delivery of clinical research methods applicable to drug development and healthcare research. The course has been designed to meet the needs of graduates, nurses and medical doctors working in contract research organisations, the pharmaceutical industry or the Health Service. The MSc and Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Drug Development provides you with skills in the organisation and delivery of clinical research methods applicable to drug development.Course contentModule topics include:Drug discovery and pre-clinical research and development Toxicology Clinical study design Practical aspects of clinical research and early drug development Ethics and regulation in clinical research Data management, the interpretation of statistics and pharmacokinetics Special topics in clinical trial design Health and pharmaco-economics A research project or dissertation.AssessmentThe requirement varies from module to module, depending on the content, from 100 per cent continuous assessment to submission of either essay-style answers or a series of shorter answers or a mixture of both. These are marked and returned according to a timetable specified in the course handbook.Entry requirementsYou should have a degree or equivalent in an appropriate subject from an approved educational establishment, or professional qualifications, or experience sufficient to satisfy the course director of your fitness to pursue the course of study. Students whose first language is not English must have a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or TOEFL 590 (PBT) or 243 (CBT).
