About Experimental Oral Pathology (Oral Sciences), MSc - at Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL)

This MSc is primarily designed for biological science, dental or medical graduates, preferably with at least one year`s postgraduate experience, who wish to gain some understanding of laboratory-based research at an early stage in their career. It provides an excellent foundation for entry into either the dental specialties or a career in oral biology research. The course offers a fundamental training in the principles of laboratory research methods and the range of techniques used to study the behaviour of oral tissues in health and disease.Course contentThe course consists of seminars and practical classes on the following: Molecular organisation of the cell Techniques in cell and molecular biology The biology of oral tissues Cellular pathology Inflammation General and oral immunology Oral microbiology Oral pathology. The second half of the course is devoted to a supervised research project. This may also provide a starting point for a PhD programme for suitable candidates.AssessmentThe course is assessed by two written papers, the submission of a project report and an oral examination.Entry requirementsA degree in dentistry or medicine or a good BSc honours in a biological science subject. Students whose first language is not English must have a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or TOEFL 243 (computer version) or 590 (paper version).
