About Biological Sciences (with Foundation Year), BSc (Hons) - at Hartpury University

Develop your scientific knowledge with this BSc (Hons) Biological Sciences degree (with foundation year). You’ll expand your skills inside the laboratory and outside in the field, to prepare for an exciting career in biology.

If you want to advance your understanding of living systems, from the smallest microbes up to large-scale ecosystems, this degree is for you. You’ll develop your expertise in everything from anatomy and physiology through to plant science and epidemiology.

You’ll benefit from access to diverse facilities, including professional-standard laboratories, a 70-species animal collection with domestic and non-domestic species, 380-hectares of commercial farmland across five sites, and a large equine centre.

Apply theory to practice as you get hands-on in our dissection and microbiology laboratories, learning more about a range of species. You’ll also investigate ecological principles and apply them to the real world on our expansive 360-hectare estate that boasts rare plant and animal species. It’s an ideal setting for observing and conserving British wildlife.

In addition to studying core topics including genetics and cell biology, you’ll have the opportunity to undertake a field course either in the UK or abroad. Experience real-world applications of biology on our commercial farm and equine and canine therapy and hydrotherapy centres, and be well-prepared to launch a career within research, clinical laboratories, or a range of related industries.

Entry requirements

UCAS tariff points | 32-48 UCAS tariff points.
A Levels | EE-DD or equivalent from at least one full A Level.
Vocational Awards | PPP in an Extended Diploma.
Access | 32-48 UCAS tariff points in an Access to Higher Education Diploma.
International Baccalaureate | 32-48 UCAS tariff points in an IB Diploma, to include one Higher at H3 or above.
Scottish Highers | 32-48 UCAS tariff points from at least one Higher. You must have completed two years study at Higher Level.
Irish Leaving Certificate | 32-48 UCAS tariff points from at least one Higher.
T Level | An overall grade of Pass.

Additional Information

In addition to the above, we require a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 9-4 (A*-C), to include English and Maths. We will consider equivalencies including but not limited to functional skills level 2, Irish Ordinary level, National 5s, IB standard level.

We will consider combinations of level three qualifications.

We welcome applications from individuals with equivalent, non-UK qualifications and mature students (over 21). We may interview as part of the application process.

Hartpury has a number of scholarships and bursaries available to support students from outside the UK.

You can apply for more than one bursary, but only one bursary will be awarded (usually the highest value for which you're eligible).

The Andrew Beacham Awards give aspiring, talented rugby players from South Africa and Zimbabwe the financial support to follow their dreams by providing annual tuition fee reductions.

Sports Scholarships

These scholarships are open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students who are part of sports academies and are awarded by the sports academies.
