EU Business School Barcelona’s 2018 Commencement Ceremony took place at the renowned Palau de Congressos de Catalunya in Barcelona on Saturday, June 9.
Family, friends, classmates and faculty gathered to celebrate the achievements of over 200 undergraduate and graduate students, representing more than 60 different nationalities.
Speaking to EU Barcelona’s class of 2018, the former president of Switzerland and founder of the “Freude herrscht” Foundation, Adolf Ogi, delivered an uplifting and optimistic keynote speech.
Mr. Ogi was a member of the Swiss government from 1988 to 2000 and, having been elected president of Switzerland in 1993 and 2000, he was subsequently appointed as special advisor on Sport for Development and Peace to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.
Mr. Ogi currently focuses on humanitarian and charitable organizations such as the “Freude herrscht” Foundation, which he founded as a tribute to his late son, Mathias Adolf Ogi. Through “Freude herrscht”, Mr. Ogi promotes Mathias’s thirst for life, perseverance and helpfulness by encouraging young people to be active, take part in sports, enjoy nature and spend time with friends.
In his keynote address, Mr. Ogi said that EU Barcelona’s class of 2018 should be selfless in using their knowledge, passion and expertise to tackle the world’s problems. He said that had great faith in them to work towards a safer, fairer and more prosperous world for future generations to enjoy.
At each year’s commencement ceremony, EU Business School also presents awards to those who have had an impact on their organizations, communities, and industries. These special awards recognize the efforts made by businesses and individuals who work every day to change the world for the better.
The prestigious Leadership Award was presented to Michel Jordi, Founder and CEO of Swiss Icon, MJL, Michel Jordi SA and LE CLIP SA. In his commencement address, he told graduates his personal stories of bravery and determination in business, encouraging the next genera-tion of business leaders to develop their entrepreneurial skills and forge their own career paths.
Further awards in Barcelona were presented to footwear specialists Camper, who won the Family Business Award; local development organization Barcelona Global, who won the Entrepreneurship Award; multinational energy specialist Schneider Electric, who won the Sustainability Award; global pharmaceutical company Chiesi España, who won the Corporate Responsibility Award; and ecological food waste app weSAVEeat, who won the Social Responsibility award.
EU Business School offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in traditional subject areas such as banking, finance, business administration, international business, marketing and public relations, as well as in leading-edge areas of modern business such as e-business, entrepreneurship, sustainability and design management.
