About Business Management (Marketing) at Westminster Business School, London, University of Westminster

Business success requires a breadth of knowledge and abilities. In bringing together theory and practice, this course will enable you to develop the vision, innovation and dynamism required in the contemporary business world.

The Business Management degree allows you to build the degree of your choice, by studying for a general business award or specialising in one of seven business areas: Accounting, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, human resource management, legal regulation or marketing. The course also gives you the opportunity to change pathway at the end of the first year, allowing you to specialise if you wish at that point. You may also change to the general pathway at the end of the end of the second year.

During the course, you will gain a broad range of business knowledge and skills which will enable you to pursue a career in the private or public sectors. You will also have the appropriate skills and the confidence to develop your own business.

In each year of study, you will take a combination of core and option modules, with increased flexibility as you move through your degree. You will also have the opportunity to study a foreign language as part of your course in each year.

In Year 1, you are introduced to the functions of business organisations, the broader business environment, and key management skills and competence including information gathering and analysis, accounting, economics, marketing and organisational behaviour.

In Year 2, you will be investigating and learning how businesses operate, looking at how people are managed, how you manage business operations and how managers make key decisions.

Year 2 is the year where you will start to specialise in the pathway of your choice, where you also have the ability to select modules to develop your knowledge in a certain direction within your pathway, in this case, marketing. Modules such as Marketing Research have been selected to emphasise this area within your studies.

You may also select a module in a foreign language. Your personal tutor will help you to decide on a programme of study best suited to your abilities and personal career interests. There is also an opportunity to study abroad for a single semester.

Year 3 will enable you to apply critical and reflective approaches to exploring the challenges facing organisations at a strategic level. You will also develop your specialist area further. During the year you will complete a piece of independent research within your specialist subject area.

What students think about Westminster Business School, London, University of Westminster

Vanessa De Silva, Management Consultant, Expertise Limited, Bermuda

Testimonial from Vanessa De Silva, Management Consultant, Expertise Limited, Bermuda, student at Westminster Business School, London
As an international student I was looking for a Master's program that would offer me an experience and education that I could utilise worldwide. The University of Westminster was a simple choice for me knowing the superior level of education, top quality professors and fabulous location offered. The culturally diverse group of classmates held various levels of professional experience which enriched my learning as we continued to develop and challenge each other.

Having completed the MA Human Resource Management specialising in Employee Relations I have acquired an education which lead me to a fulfilling career rather than a short-term job. As a Management Consultant in an Employment Services firm I work with local and international clients and have continued to develop my practical experience in employee relations, policy development, recruitment and performance management.

Andrew Behles, Trainee Chartered Accountant, Nexia Smith & Williamson

Testimonial from Andrew Behles, Trainee Chartered Accountant, Nexia Smith & Williamson, student at Westminster Business School, London
As a US national with relatively little experience in international accounting standards and practices prior to beginning the course, the WBS Msc in Finance and Accounting provided me with a useful blend of accounting theory and practice that has well equipped me for securing a job in international audit in the UK upon graduation. And with up to six exemptions from ACCA exams, its easy to see a quick and tangible return on investment.

Owen Coughlan, RBS Global Banking & Markets

Testimonial from Owen Coughlan, RBS Global Banking & Markets, student at Westminster Business School, London
A Distinction in my Masters at the University of Westminster gave me the knowledge and confidence to gain a coveted job in an investment bank. Having a solid grounding in theory combined with practice in my Westminster Business School degree enabled me to take on the added responsibilities I needed to advance my career.
