As the leading provider of spatial science courses in Australia, USQ offers a practical, skill and knowledge-based degree that will allow you to learn more about geographical information systems or surveying.

This degree:

  • is the only full accredited three-year course
  • will provide you hands-on industry experience.

When you complete the degree, you are able to apply for registration and/or licensing as a professional mining surveyor with the Surveyors Boards of Queensland and New South Wales.

If you want to make an impact on one of the most rapidly developing industries, then USQ's Bachelor of Spatial Science Technology (Surveying) is the course for you. As Australia's number one surveying degree in distance education, the Bachelor of Spatial Science Technology (Surveying) also offers the unique opportunity to finish your degree within three years while studying full-time, allowing you to become a practising Mine Surveyor once you graduate.

The Bachelor of Spatial Science Technology is the perfect base for a new career or starting point for further study down the track.

Why Surveying?

If a boring desk job is not the thing for you, then the physical, outdoors nature of surveying is probably a better fit. You'll be equipped with up to date knowledge of new technologies, including satellite based Global Positioning Systems and Geographic Information and have the practical skills to work in a range of surveying projects including land development and mining.

When you graduate from your Bachelor of Spatial Science Technology, you will have the opportunity to work as a Surveying Technologist, Mine Surveyor, and Supervising Engineering Surveyor and, with a bit of experience under your belt, as a Manager of Survey Operations in the Commonwealth, State and Local Government and with a plethora of large construction organizations.

Professional accreditation

The Bachelor of Spatial Science Technology program is accredited by the Surveyors Board of Queensland, and is recognised throughout Australia and New Zealand. After some experience working in the field, you will become eligible for registration as a graduate surveyor with the Queensland Surveyors Board and registration or licensing as a professional mining surveyor with the Surveyors Boards of Queensland and New South Wales. You will also become eligible for membership with the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute Australia.
