About Landscape Archaeology at University of Sheffield

Landscape archaeology explores the relationship between humans, the natural world and the environments we create.

The course aims to develop digital and field skills as well as knowledge. Working with employers, we have identified several key skills a landscape archaeologist needs to work in the heritage sector. These include analytical techniques such as GIS, earthwork survey, geophysical survey and air photo interpretation.

You choose whether to go on a fieldwork placement over the summer or complete a dissertation.

Graduates have gone on to work for national parks, the National Trust, Historic England, Historic Environment Scotland, commercial contractors and many other archaeological organisations.

You can choose between pursuing a fieldwork placement over the summer or completing a dissertation.
