About Advanced Control and Systems Engineering (with Industry) at University of Sheffield

This course blends theory and practice and a 12-month placement, giving you a strong grounding for a career in industry or research. 

It's designed if you are looking to specialise in control and systems engineering that may not have studied it before, or you may be an experienced professional, thinking about updating your knowledge. 

You'll be able to take optional modules to further develop areas that interest you, including an opportunity to work with companies to work on real opportunities or problems experienced by industry. 

This version of our flagship course includes a 12-month work placement. You'll need to search and apply for the work placement. Furthermore, you'll need to write a report and give a presentation based on your work placement.

You'll also complete a research-level dissertation project where you will take the lead to advanced your knowledge and skills in systems and control engineering.

Entry requirements

Minimum 2:1 undergraduate honours degree in an engineering, mathematics or science subject. You will also need excellent mathematical notation and basic computer programming skills.

Entry requirements for international students

Overall IELTS score of 7.5 with a minimum of 7.0 in each component, or equivalent.

If you're an international student who does not meet the entry requirements for this course, you have the opportunity to apply for a pre-masters programme in Science and Engineering at the University of Sheffield International College. This course is designed to develop your English language and academic skills. Upon successful completion, you can progress to degree level study at the University of Sheffield.
