About Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy Systems at University of Nottingham

The recent increase in the use of renewable energy sources has highlighted the challenges facing future electrical engineers, including guaranteeing an electrical supply in the presence of intermittent sources such as solar power. This degree provides the skills required for future power engineers.

Year one
You will gain an understanding of renewable energy systems and the principles and practices on which electrical and electronic engineering is founded, achieved through the study of analogue and digital electronics, the application of electrical energy and practical work including programming and projects. Your appreciation of the aspects of science and mathematics, which underpin the subject, will also be enhanced.

Year two
You will continue to develop your understanding of electrical and electronic engineering in relation to renewable energy. This will prepare you to study, in the final years of your course, emerging and advanced technologies usually taught by internationally recognized researchers. Group projects, presentations and seminars enable you to gain the skills and understanding essential for the workplace.

Years three and four
In the final years, you will be able to choose from a range of specialist topics. You will also undertake an individual research project with a focus on developing new technologies for renewable energy systems.

By the end of the course
You will have learnt about emerging and advanced technologies and will have a thorough understanding of electrical and renewable energy systems. Through a final year project, you will have refined your engineering skills in preparation for graduate placement.
