The MA TESOL is suitable for all with a bachelor's degree and wish to pursue TESOL as a new career or enhance their current prospects in the field of English language teaching, or working in a related profession.
The MA TESOL will develop your critical understanding of recent developments in TESOL theory and practice. It also prepares you to conduct independent research into teaching and learning and provides a pathway to doctoral study. You will meet expert tutors in the field of English language teaching (ELT), a major branch of applied linguistics, who have international reputations in their own area of research, and who are committed to providing the best quality study experience.
The course is co-taught with highly experienced colleagues in the Centre for English Language Education, one of the largest English language teaching operations in the world.
Degree Requirements: Applicants should normally hold an approved first degree with at least second class honours (or equivalent) or an approved professional qualification deemed to be equivalent to a second class honours degree.
Teaching Experience: Applicants to the MA TESOL are not formally required to have prior teaching experience, although such experience is naturally considered useful, and can help in providing students with a more immediate and practical context when reflecting on the course content. All applicants accepted onto the MA TESOL with less than nine months' full-time experience of English Language Teaching will be required to complete a 20-credit Teaching Practicum module in the second semester (those who are able to provide evidence of previous teaching experience can claim exemption from this).
All applicants should therefore include a full CV as part of their application. Applicants should also provide a sample of their academic writing in English. A Skype, telephone or face-to-face interview is normally required as part of the acceptance decision making process.
This master programme require student to have a bachelors degree(or international equivalent) from a recognised institution at the same standard as UK university's 2:1 (upper second class honours degree or international equivalent)

Julia Aughenbaugh (USA) - MA International Higher Education
“I've really enjoyed the opportunity to learn about higher education from an international perspective at UNNC. As an MA student in the International Higher Education program, I have taken an internship on campus each semester to learn more about university management.
My course has organized trips to nearby universities so that we can learn more about other unique global partnerships. I get insight into the British education system at UNNC and the Chinese systems at other universities in the area.
My education here has opened my mind to new systems of university management while also focusing my interests. I've also really enjoyed all of the free field trips and activities that the university offers, it has helped me get to know Chinese history and culture better."
Kanjanaporn Tienchat-A-Nan (Thailand) - MSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management
"From this programme, I think the most beneficial part is doing a business plan. This prepares you for your future business. It makes you think about all the perspectives involved in running a business, and not just having an idea and desire to start your own business.
We have to concern about product/services, financial matters, cashflow and the marketing plan. Some of these aspects I did not know. I had to study them to complete a business plan. After the study with Nottingham China, I am now running a successful business."
Olamide Balogun (Nigeria) - MSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management
"Having been a student of this university for 5 years now (undergraduate study for the first 4 years), I can safely say that I never thought I would be receiving the president’s award for the outstanding master student at the graduation ceremony. Let me tell you that it wasn’t always easy but the journey I can say was worth it.
I have learnt along the way that 'for every NO I received brought me closer to the YES I never imagined'. I sincerely do want to thank everyone that has played a role in helping me reach a stage. I enjoyed my study here at UNNC."
