About Master of Professional Engineering (Environmental) at University of Newcastle, Australia

The Master of Professional Engineering (Environmental) is a flexible degree that will allow you to fast-track your career in engineering.

You can choose to diversify your engineering expertise with courses in advanced renewable energy systems, particle processing, low emission technologies, and dynamic process simulations and control. Or you could broaden your skills base in a complimentary area such as environmental sciences, environmental management, disaster risk reduction, business and management skills, entrepreneurship and innovation. You will also complete a year-long, advanced engineering project (design-based or theoretical - the choice is yours), which can potentially be linked to industry.

The flexible nature of the program puts you in control. Whether you want to specialise or diversify, move into a more senior role, lead teams or projects, develop sophisticated research and innovation skills for R&D roles - you can choose courses to support your personal career goals.

2-year or 1-year?
If you are a graduate of an Australian Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree, or equivalent, you can complete the MPE in just one year.

If you are an international student seeking professional recognition from Engineers Australia* and the Washington Accord, or if you wish to extend your engineering and professional expertise in an Australian context, the 2-year MPE is the ideal program. Your study program will be designed to build on your prior studies and develop the core technical competencies to ensure you qualify -these will be chosen from areas such as water engineering, hydrology, hydrobiological modelling, land surface process and management and engineering project management.

Alternative Engineering Disciplines:

Applications for the Master of Professional Engineering (Environmental) from graduates from a different engineering discipline other than environmental engineering are welcomed, but will be assessed for eligibility on an individual basis by the Faculty.

GPA Equivalence for Non-University of Newcastle Applicants:

Applicants from external institutions will be required to provide transcripts of previous studies to allow assessment of GPA equivalence on the University of Newcastle scale.

Alternate Entry Path Incorporating Work Experience:

Applications from graduates with an appropriate Bachelor Degree (AQF 7) or Honours Degree (AQF 8 ) in engineering not meeting the above requirements, BUT with significant relevant work experience will be assessed for eligibility on an individual basis by the Faculty.
