About Sociology / Philosophy at University of Exeter

We have expertise in a variety of fields broadly clustered around the theme of culture, knowledge and belief, with an equally strong emphasis on philosophy of science and social science. The Department runs a lively seminar series and has hosted various conferences. Research students are encouraged, sometimes with financial assistance, to attend conferences and to publish their work. We have a good record securing funding for research, both from AHRC and ESRC.

We offer the Four-Year PhD programme in Sociology. Under this scheme, students take a number of taught Masters-level modules, receive one-to-one supervision and may be provided with a bursary for a specified amount of teaching or research for two years.
