About Medical History at University of Exeter

The Centre draws together scholars from History, Archaeology, Classics and Ancient History, Sociology, Psychology, English, Politics, the Peninsula Medical School, and Education and Lifelong Learning, amongst others, to promote the study of medicine in a social and historical perspective. One special interest of those closely associated with the Centre is the social history of insanity, psychiatry and mental disability. Another important area is the history of occupational health. Our medical archival survey has made an important contribution to the history of hospitals and medical institutions within the South-west.
