About Cornish Studies, MPhil - at University of Exeter

Currently, MPhil/PhD students at the Institute are researching in the areas of Cornish music, Romany Gypsies in Cornwall, the Celtic Revival, nineteenth century social history, sport and identity, Cornishness and the curriculum, demography and migration.

The Institute is home to two high-profile research programmes: the Cornish Communities Programme, which encourages research on the issues of migration, community, family and identity at different geographical scales, and the Cornish Audio Visual Archive (CAVA), an innovative programme for the study and documentation of the oral and visual culture of Cornwall.

Applicants for the research programmes are advised to check the research interests of staff and make preliminary enquiries about supervision before making an application.

“Studying for a research degree has really helped me to focus my interest in Cornish Studies. The discipline and the ideas that the staff and other postgrads provide are helping me to bring a reflective approach to my work and build on my previous experience.”

Merv Davey, postgraduate research student Cornish Studies
