About Creative Writing at University of Exeter
MA students benefit from close dialogue with the writing/research interests of their peers, as well as with those of research staff within the department. Therefore, in addition to specialised seminars, MA students are an integral part of the burgeoning writing culture within the department, with regular extra-curricular Writing Workshops to develop work in progress; regular Research Seminars; and regular visits from distinguished scholars and speakers. We aim to prepare students for entry into the professions of writing, across a range of genres, and therefore provide opportunities for students to publish work by introducing them to national and international publications, publishing and broadcast media professionals, and literary agents and editors. There is a special emphasis within the Department of English upon interdisciplinarity. Creative Writing as practice is, therefore, studied alongside literature of the 20th century and 21st century and in relation to other cultural products in different media – for example, the comparative development of creative writing and film.
Entry requirements Normally a 2:1 degree, preferably in English, although other subjects are considered. Applicants should also provide a writing sample for each module they wish to study.
