About Return to Practice (Diagnostic Radiography) at University of Derby

  • This course will support your application for admission/re-admission to theHealth and Care Professions Council (HCPC)register as a Diagnostic Radiographer,as long as you meet theHCPC's requirements.
  • If you're returning to diagnostic radiography, this course is designed specifically to support you to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to work in a dynamic and challenging healthcare environment
  • This course provides some formal study in the academic setting, studied alongside a supervised clinical placement, to provide a structured way to meet the HCPC return to practice requirements
  • First course in the UK to be approved byCollege of Radiographers.

Please note that this course is paused for 2019/20 applications and is set to run again in the 2020/21 academic year.

This course is designed to support you, the returnee, to re-establish clinical competency in a range of radiographic techniques and diagnostic imaging procedures within your scope of practice, and to work safely within the current health care environment.

The course begins with theoretical classroom contact and simulation activities in the Clinical Skills Suite (where appropriate), followed by a supervised clinical placement designed to support you in meeting the HCPC return to practice requirements. Your learning will be supported (where appropriate) by use of a radiographic technique DVD.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

This module will be available to diagnostic radiographers from both plain film and other imaging modalities (with either a UK based DCR or BSc qualification), who have previously been registered with the HCPC but have not practised their profession for more than two years. Itwill also be available to individuals who may have qualified in the UK as a Diagnostic Radiographer with a DCR or BSc qualification, but then did not practice or register with the HCPC post qualification.

You will need to have an occupational health review and advanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance. Proof of UK Residency (to meet UKBA requirements) will be required

All applicants will be interviewed as part of the consideration for entry to this programme. Interviews will include representatives from both the University and clinical departments, where appropriate.
