About Advanced Clinical Practice at University of Derby

If you're an advanced practitioner working in a health profession, or you are working towards advanced practice status in a role that involves high level decision-making and problem-solving, this course is for you.

There is a lot of flexibility in your choice of modules and in most cases you do not have to select all of your modules from a certain area. However, for some of the specialist modules, you may need to be working in a specific area or studied other modules first.

The course has been developed in partnership with NHS colleagues, partners and professional bodies from across the health care sector. For example the Advanced Clinical Practitioner route offers selected modules which have been linked to the Department of Health (2010) competency statement and proficiencies, so you can be sure to receive learning that will benefit your service delivery and enhance the care you give to patients.

You can tailor the course to suit your learning needs and your professional career aspirations by choosing from a wide selection of modules. You can study specific awards or take standalone modules as part of your professional development. Many of the modules are available through distance learning, so you can study at a time and place to suit you.

To achieve the Postgraduate Certificate, you will need to study the equivalent of three 20 credit modules. For the Postgraduate Diploma, you will study the equivalent of six 20 credit modules and for the MSc in Advanced Practice you will study the equivalent of nine 20 credit modules in total.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Each award has specific entry criteria therefore please contact the programme leader initially.Usuallya First degree or equivalent (such as a professional healthcare qualification with appropriate experience in the chosen field) is required. However we are willing to consider prior academic learning at degree level from a health care background, where a first degree has not been fully obtained. Please contact the programme lead for further information.

If your first language is not English you will need to prove you are proficient in English by having IELTS 7.
