Where are you from?
The biggest, little dot in the world, Jamaica
Where did you study (which institution or school) before coming to Swansea?
The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus (Kingston, Jamaica)
Why did choose Swansea University?
Who passes an opportunity to study at a beachfront campus? Not me. For me, it was how accommodating my Programme Director, Dr. Ruth Hopkins and Helen Lewis, Allocation and Administration Manager were prior to my departure to Wales. You could imagine the “moving to a new country” jitters that I experienced, but their communication skills made the process an easy transition.
What do you do in your free time?
ParkRun. Swansea Bay parkrun is a FREE weekly 5km event for runners of all standards, which takes place every Saturday at 9:00am. It is not a race against other runners, but a 5K timed run and it can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that's for fun or as part of a training plan.It offers an opportunity for all the local community, male or female, young or old, to come together on a regular basis to enjoy this beautiful park and get physically active into the bargain. They encourage people to jog or run together irrespective of their ability– this event is truly open to all and best of all it really is free.
What has been the highlight of your time in Swansea?
My Swansea experience can be summed up in two words- The People. I think some of the most memorable moments of this experience came from the interaction with the people here in Swansea. Whether on campus, volunteering at Matthew’s House (local foodbank charity) or a random stroll through the city. The hospitality that you get from people in Swansea is top tier. The friendships I’ve made, the sharing of cultures and food, the laughter on the beach- all those experiences were made with the people I met.
