Course Overview

The BA Spanish degree offers you the opportunity to study a major world language and discover the rich history of Spain, Portugal and Latin America, not to mention the chance to experience life in a Spanish-speaking country first-hand during your year abroad.

Key features

  • Our modules include Latin American literature and culture, contemporary Spanish politics, Twentieth and Twenty-First century Spanish and Catalan literature.
  • A strong Welsh-medium provision is also available.
  • During the third year of study, students spend a year abroad in Spain or Gran Canaria. 
  • Students can study at a University, teach in a school or work in a business during the year abroad.

Course description

  • At Level One students take compulsory modules in Spanish language and, for most schemes, a module on Hispanic culture designed to introduce you to the rich diversity of Hispanic history, politics, literature and film. Beginners in Spanish follow intensive language modules in their first year in order to reach a standard equivalent to A-level. There are a range of optional modules available including Gender in European Culture and Contemporary European Film.

Notes about fees for this course

Annual tuition fees for entry in the academic year 2017/18 are as follows:

UK/EU International BA (Hons) Full-time £9,000 £14,050

Fees for full time Undergraduate UK/EU students may be increased in subsequent years of study by an inflationary amount determined by Welsh Government.

Fees for full time Undergraduate International students will increase by 3% for each subsequent year of study.

Entry requirements

Our standard entry requirement is BBB (UCAS tariff points 120) or equivalent with a B grade in a relevant A-level language. All offers are made following a review of the application form, predicted/achieved grades and subjects, the reference and personal statement.  We also accept a range of advanced level qualifications including: International Baccalaureate 32; Welsh Baccalaureate - grade equivalent to A-level; Access to Higher Education and Open University qualifications, and Extended Project.
