Course Overview

The BA History and Spanish degree covers the periods of Medieval, Early Modern and Modern History and allows you to study a major world language.

Key features

  • During the third year, students spend a year abroad and can study at a University, teach in a school or work in a business.
  • Students can take a study trip or field project module. 
  • In the final year students take a 'special subject' module focusing on a topic, culminating in a dissertation.

Course description

From the Crusades to the Cold War and from Renaissance to Russian Revolutionaries, discover history in all its variety at Swansea University. Our staff are especially strong in the history of political thought, welfare and conflict, maritime and imperial history, gender and sexuality, religious history, science and medicine, and  travel and migration.

The joint degree scheme also offers you the opportunity to study a major world language and discover the rich history of Spain, Portugal and Latin America, not to mention the chance to experience life in a Spanish-speaking country first-hand.

Students study six modules, three in History and three in Spanish.

Notes about fees for this course

Annual tuition fees for entry in the academic year 2017/18 are as follows:

UK/EU International BA (Hons) Full-time £9,000 £13,300

Fees for full time Undergraduate UK/EU students may be increased in subsequent years of study by an inflationary amount determined by Welsh Government.

Fees for full time Undergraduate International students will increase by 3% for each subsequent year of study.

Entry requirements

Our standard entry requirement is BBB at A Level (UCAS tariff points 120) or equivalent including a B in History. Students should also have a B grade at GCSE in a relevant language. All offers are made following a review of the application form, predicted/achieved grades and subjects, the reference and personal statement.  We also accept a range of advanced level qualifications including: International Baccalaureate 32; Welsh Baccalaureate - grade equivalent to A-level; Access to Higher Education and Open University qualifications, and Extended Project.
