About Classical Civilisation and Medieval Studies at Swansea University

Course Overview

The Classical Civilisation and Medieval Studies degree scheme combines the study of history, ancient and modern language and literature. We have more than twenty scholars working in the fields of literature, history, philosophy, European languages and classical studies, covering the period approximately AD 400 to 1800.

Key features

  • The BA Classical Civilisation and Medieval Studies combines the study of classical civilisation and medieval history and literature.
  • In the second year, students can take a study trip/field project module Ancient and Historic Places.
  • Students can gain teaching experience by leading workshops for the South West Wales Reaching Wider Partnership. 
  • Students have the option of a semester abroad in Hong Kong or the USA.
  • Our students have an academic mentor who provides pastoral support and guidance on issues that may affect their well-being, attendance and progress through University.
  • Students are actively involved in voluntary archaeological digs nationally and internationally.

Students study six modules a year, three in Classical Civilisation and three in Medieval Studies.

Notes about fees for this course

Annual tuition fees for entry in the academic year 2017/18 are as follows:

UK/EU International BA (Hons) Full-time £9,000 £14,750

Fees for full time Undergraduate UK/EU students may be increased in subsequent years of study by an inflationary amount determined by Welsh Government.

Fees for full time Undergraduate International students will increase by 3% for each subsequent year of study.

Entry requirements

Our standard entry requirement is BBB (UCAS tariff points 120) or equivalent. All offers are made following a review of the application form, predicted/achieved grades and subjects, the reference and personal statement.  We also accept a range of advanced level qualifications including: International Baccalaureate 32; Welsh Baccalaureate - grade equivalent to A-level; Access to Higher Education and Open University qualifications, and Extended Project.
