In this full time programme, students will study the management challenges encountered by global organisations, with particular emphasis on attracting, managing and developing people.
The programme brings together cutting-edge scholarship on global business management and international human resource management to provide a bespoke learning experience tailored to students looking to pursue senior roles that have a strong 'people management' element.
You'll study a tailored programme of human resources (HR) and business modules that specifically prepare students for management roles within global multinational enterprises and other international organisations. Human resource learning will be delivered through targeted modules such as:

Students will also have the opportunity to select a number of elective modules from an extensive programme of HR and business learning offered by Strathclyde Business School.
Students will be required to undertake a research-based project that will focus on an organisational management issue with an international focus. You'll be assisted to connect with an international organisation and its managers to conduct research and produce a practically-focused report.

HRM in a Business Context
This class aims to explore the managerial and business context of HRM and the associated impact in shaping human resource strategy.
It critically reviews the major internal and external contextual factors influencing organisational strategy and examines the key choices facing HR managers in designing and delivery of HR practices.
The class recognises that HRM occurs in a variety of organisational, social and political contexts and evaluates the significance of these variations for the strategic organisation and management of people. Fundamentally the class examines how organisational and HR strategies are shaped by the dynamic nature of the business context, the underpinning goals of employers and considerations of social and ethical legitimacy.Managing Human Resources in Multinationals
This class is primarily focused on human resource management within multinational companies providing a broad base to understand how companies address the challenges of managing globally.
The class focuses on key challenges in staffing the multinational enterprise considering aspects such as recruitment and selection, training and development, compensation and performance management. The firm-level analysis will complement the broader comparative frameworks which other modules are developing to allow for you to further your understanding of comparative HRM and issues surrounding the globalisation of business.Comparative Employment RelationsThe aim of this class will be to examine current issues in the field of comparative employment relations including from a political economy perspective and to outline and examine comparative employment relations in the context of the international political economy together with the strategies and practices utilised by international firms. The class will also analyse comparative employment relations from a range of social and institutional perspectives and from a range of distinct environments.Labour & Diversity in a Global ContextThis class will provide you with the opportunity to explore patterns of labour mobility across nation states and how these have varied across space and time. A key focus will be on the issue of diversity management within and between nation states in an era of more integrated markets and the practical implications these have for managers working in different political and economic contexts.Professional Management Practice
This class develops your awareness and capabilities as a manager. It utilises a Personal Development Plan (PDP) process to help you critically evaluate how your skills and attributes are needed to be effective and, over the course of the year, provides workshops and exercises to help you identify and move towards fulfilling your potential.Global Business Environment
Business organisations and management decisions and actions exist in a complex, dynamic and often turbulent environment. This class will develop your understanding of the many dimensions and layers of the global business environment. It'll encourage you to recognise, understand and reflect upon the challenges and opportunities that various aspects of the business environment present to businesses, organisations and managers operating in an international context. The class will also introduce you to a range of useful theories, concepts and tools for analysing the business environment and give them an opportunity to apply these to 'real world' and hypothetical management scenarios.Managing Across Cultures
This class will develop the awareness, skills and knowledge required by managers seeking to work abroad as international executives. It'll help you develop an awareness, knowledge and understanding of the importance of the often overlooked 'soft skills' of management, particularly as concerns cross-cultural variations and their impact on the practices and processes of management. It'll examine the main concepts currently employed to understand the complexity presented to managers in their process of managing people across national and cultural borders, addressing the issues of the impact of culture on management structures and processes. It will then provide understanding of the role which cross-cultural management can play in achieving competitive advantage in international business.Project
The project gives you the opportunity to engage with a topic of interest in depth and over an extended period of time. Preparation for the project is provided via a course in project methodology training. At this stage of the programme, you may be interested in aligning career aspirations with project work.

Examples are shown below but others may be available.People ResourcingThis class will help you understand people resourcing issues within organisations and related concepts in order that they become thinking practitioners in the field. Issues such as managing performance, managing equality and managing careers will be covered.Employment Issues & the LawEmployment law plays a role in shaping the work of personnel specialists. You'll be introduced to important aspects of UK employment law with the aim of examining the nature and extent of its impact on employment relationships, policies and practices, and will gain knowledge of the way in which employment law is formed through European UK legislation and directives.Employee RewardYou'll become familiar with different pay systems and structures and will develop an understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of the foundations of pay in this module, enabling you to develop a critical understanding of pay systems and structures.Business Strategy
This class provides opportunities to explore, understand and apply the language of strategy and strategic management. By examining real-life organisations, you will develop your understanding of the forces within their contextual and transactional environments that influence their strategy, and by applying different strategic frameworks, develop the ability to critically analyse the strategic direction being adopted.Managing in Europe
This class gives you the skills involved in managing people in Europe with a focus on cultural and knowledge issues as well as managing cross-cultural differences.
You'll be able to understand the European context in terms of human resource management and employment relations and manage effectively in this context. You'll also be able to adapt to different cultural environments and to manage effectively in an intercultural European context as well as a global context.Leadership for Change & Innovation
The central premise of this class is that whilst prudent management is essential, it is not sufficient to assure sustainable business success. Leadership in any sector involves using creativity and vision to tackle problems. This class draws together the latest theories and practices to develop skills and understanding for effective leadership in the context of change. It also informs the practices of leadership in innovative project teams.
