About Food Science and Technology (final year top-up) at Nottingham Trent University

This final year top-up course has been designed to provide you with a progression route from the foundation degree in Food Science and Technology.

This course will build upon and develop the skills and knowledge that you will require for management roles in the food and drink sector. The course is delivered on a one day a week basis and for some of the rest of the week you will be expected to work within the food industry and undertake independent studies, including working on your coursework.

How you're taught

How will I learn?

The course is delivered one day a week, for some of the rest of the week you will be expected to:

  • work within the food industry
  • undertake independent studies including working on your coursework.

Your course will begin earlier in the academic year than the typical University course. You will also finish later to ensure that you have the taught sessions required.

You will experience a range of learning and teaching methods. As well as traditional lectures and tutorials you will undertake practical work in our food processing laboratory and chemistry laboratory. Visits to commercial businesses are also arranged.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed using a variety of methods including the following:

  • 17% assignments
  • 50% portfolio of work
  • 33% exams.

It is likely that you are already employed in the food industry. Successful completion of the BSc (Hons) Food Science and Technology top-up degree will assist your career progression to management levels in an industry that has a real need for food science and technology graduates.

Where will I study?

Your studies will be based at the Brackenhurst Campus which offers 200 hectares of rural estate and modern laboratories for the development of scientific skills and experience as well as specialist food processing equipment.

Notes about fees for this course

The tuition fee for UK home students joining NTU in 2018/19 on a full-time undergraduate/foundation degree programme, will be £9,250.

The fee for those who have a year-long placement as part of a sandwich course, or spend a year studying or working abroad will be published here once confirmed.

The University reviews its tuition fees each year. The fees for Home (UK / EU) undergraduate students for 2018-19 are £9250. As a guide and to enable you to plan your finances the current expectation is that the University’s current fee of £9250 per annum may increase for subsequent years of study in line with inflation and as specified by the Government.
