    • Machinery Operations

Learn to operate machines for a variety of tasks under different conditions efficiently and safely with a high degree of skill and understanding. You will also be taught how to prepare, operate, service and carry out basic repairs and gain an understanding of the laws around the use of land-based machinery.

    • Woodland Habitat Management

This module focuses on the historical management of UK woodlands, as well as the more recent trends and issues that have affected their management. You will investigate elements of the woodland ecosystem as well as the practical management of woodlands to ensure diversity of habitats.

    • Practical Animal Handling and Husbandry

Learn how to handle, move, restrain and groom a range of animals such as small mammals, exotic animals and large animals safely and effectively.

    • Wildlife Population, Ecology and Conservation

Study a variety of subjects directly related to ecosystems, wildlife and their habitats and gain skills needed to measure populations and wildlife habitats.

    • Principles of Plant Science

Develop an understanding of internal and external plant structures and their function in relevant land-based and/or applied science industries. Gain an understanding of important life processes such as photosynthesis and respiration, and the uptake and transport of water and nutrients.

    • Principles of Soil Science

Study the formation of soils along with the physical and chemical characteristics through both theory and practical sessions.

    • Ecological Concept and Application

Explore population dynamics in more detail focusing on factors that affect species populations and relate habitat changes to population changes. This module will also cover the concept of life history strategies for a variety of organisms and the associated behaviours, and the impact of human activity.

    • Organism Identification

This module will cover the history and development of organism classification. You will become familiar with the main scientific names and formats used in classification and the reasons for their use.

  • Year Two
