About NCUK International Year One at NCUK

Advanced access to the second year of a university degree.

The International Year One (IYOne) is a credit bearing qualification that enables you to enter the second year of an undergraduate degree at an NCUK university. The International Year One is currently available in 7 countries worldwide, including the UK. Take a look at your options from our quality assured Study Centres.

  • Accelerated Programme: Six months
  • Standard Programme: Nine Months

What do I study on the International Year One?

Like the first year of a university degree, you will study a range of topics related to your chosen subject area. You may also need to study our English for Academic Purposes module. If you’re not sure which degree would be best for you, our local NCUK Counsellors will be able to advise you.

English for Academic Purposes

All NCUK English modules provide essential preparation for university study. If needed, you can include NCUK’s English for Academic Purposes. The qualification is equivalent to IELTS and acceptable for Visa requirements.

What exams do I need to take?

It varies depending on your subject area. The majority of modules are assessed by a combination of coursework and examination, with the exam accounting for at least 75% of the final mark. A small number of modules are assessed entirely by coursework. All assessments are set and moderated by NCUK.

How do I enrol?

Choose whether you want to study in the UK, Europe or your nearest Study Centre from our list of quality approved Delivery Partners. An enquiry form is provided on our ‘Find a Study Centre’ page.

Who awards the International Year One qualification?

NCUK awards the final certificate. Upon successful completion you will receive a certificate showing that you have passed the course and a transcript that details your individual module results.

What happens if I don’t get the results I was expecting?

We know that not all students achieve their predicted grades. Because of our unique relationship with the NCUK Universities, we are able to offer a Clearing Service. If you don’t get into your first choice University, we can still find you a suitable alternative. You receive a set of guaranteed offers at the same time that you get your results. All you have to do is choose the one that’s right for you.

How do I apply to university?

NCUK has a dedicated team that helps you with your university application. We also have Counsellors in each of our Study Centres that are dedicated to helping you. We will help you with your application and let you know about all the deadlines. With the NCUK guarantee, we ensure you get at least two conditional offers and if you pass, a guaranteed place.
