About Psychology with Foundation Year at Liverpool John Moores University

Foundation Year

The Foundation Year is ideal if you have the ability to study for a degree but don't have the qualifications to enter directly onto the honours degree programme. Once you pass the Foundation Year you will progress directly onto the first year of the honours degree. If you are a full-time UK student, you will qualify for student financial support for the full duration of your course (subject to eligibility criteria).

The study of psychology is about understanding fascinating concepts such as human thinking, memory, problem solving, emotion, development, communication, relationships, and using a scientific approach to apply them in a broad range of areas from health, education and work to more specific areas, like teamwork, stress management and conflict resolution.

The course builds your understanding of psychological theory to the stage where you will be able to apply it in practice. The first and second years provide you with a grounding in all the core areas of Psychology. Options in third year then allow you to specialise in areas as diverse as education, forensics, health, work psychology, cognitive neuroscience, positive psychology and substance use.

‚ÄčThe programme has been designed to help you develop not only your knowledge and skills but also your self-awareness, self-management, self-expression and self-presentation, so that you emerge from your studies as a fully-rounded and practical individual who is well prepared for the world of work.

The fees quoted are those for the 2018/19 year as information for 2019/20 is not yet available. The Department for Education (DfE) have recently announced that they will be freezing tuition fees for the 2019/20 academic year. However, this is still subject to the normal parliamentary approval. Once 2019/20 fees are confirmed we will update our web pages accordingly.
