About Computer Studies at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU)

The Department of Computer Science offers you a vibrant and supportive student experience. You will have access to excellent facilities, including several specialist teaching laboratories with over 400 workstations, hosting the latest software applications. The Department is highly rated for its research in computing and information systems. This research directly informs what you will study on the degree.

The Computer Studies degree programme is designed to combine theory and practice and you will study the following themes: Computer Programming and Problem Solving, Computer Systems Architecture, Internet and Web Technologies, Database Development, Object Oriented Systems Development, Information Systems Analysis and Design, Object Oriented Systems Development, Project Management, Business Systems Analysis, HCI and User Interface Design, Website and E-Commerce Management.

The Department has strong links with a large number of local and national organisations, so you will have plenty of options when you come to choose your third year paid work placement. This placement will give you a taste of what it's really like to work in the industry and a head start when you come to negotiate your way around the graduate job market. Past students have completed sandwich placements at companies such as Microsoft, Lilly UK, IBM, Reuters, Experian and Unilever to name just a few.

Notes about fees for this course

The fees quoted are those for the 2018/19 year as information for 2019/20 is not yet available. The Department for Education (DfE) have recently announced that they will be freezing tuition fees for the 2019/20 academic year. However, this is still subject to the normal parliamentary approval. Once 2019/20 fees are confirmed we will update our web pages accordingly.
