About Business and Human Resource Management at Buckinghamshire New University

Some businesses appear to value their profits more than their staff and this creates a bad work environment. However businesses wouldn't function without people.  In the UK, the service sector contributes up to 80% of the economy, where highly trained and motivated staff are increasingly seen as core to success of all organisations.

Companies need to make sure that they manage their people effectively, in terms of recruitment, training, reward and communications. A motivated workforce can provide real competitive advantage for a business. Human Resource Management (HRM) focuses on ensuring that business objectives are met through developing and encouraging all employees to work to their full potential.

Having a clear understanding of how a business works is crucial for all HR Managers.  We've structured the course so that during the first year, you'll join other business students on modules which will provide you with a fundamental knowledge of the challenges facing businesses today, and the part that marketing, finance and operations play in creating success.

In the second year, you'll start to gain specific knowledge relating to HRM while building on your existing knowledge of industry.

In the third year you will specialise further, through your dissertation and also through highly focussed HR assignments.

This course is also available as a four year programme including a foundation year (UCAS code: NN64).
