About Psychology at Brunel University London

Students joining this course will have an interest both in acquiring a systematic grasp of psychoanalytic theories and in their application to a wide range of issues beyond the purely clinical. The course starts by providing students with a firm grounding in Freudian and post-Freudian psychoanalytic theory. On this basis it will consider a psychoanalytic approach to a number of areas within the human sciences. The particular issues being currently considered are: the relation of psychoanalytic theory to ideas of social and cultural organisation; the issue of sexual identities both in respect to gender and the form of sexuality; the issue of the image and representation in art and in cinema and the psychic economy of their functioning
