About FdEng Engineering (Mechanical Design) at Bournemouth University

Delivered at BU partner college Bournemouth & Poole College, this comprehensive course results in a nationally recognised qualification for higher technician engineers in the industry, and has been designed to be relevant to the needs of employment in the fields of design, within mechanical engineering.

Students are typically employed in or aspire to employment in areas such as engineering design or research and development (R&D). This qualification builds on the principles covered in the BTEC national diploma course but is equally suitable for A-level students or mature students with relevant industrial experience wishing to develop their career in design.

You'll be registered as a student member of the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED) and on completion you will be eligible for partial incorporated engineers registration. As the course partially meets the academic requirement for IEng subject, it allows you to progress your learning to degree level.

Full-time and part-time students have the benefits of using the college’s excellent facilities including modern rapid prototyping facilities. There are also a number of state-of-the-art computer-aided design/manufacturing CAD/CAM suites available and a refurbished materials laboratory.
