Investment Courses

Investment Courses are designed to help students develop an international perspective on investment markets, practical knowledge on investment and all its processes and underlying mechanics, as well as strengthened knowledge of economics, accounting and business administration. Investment courses are intellectually demanding, and are primarily for students who are looking to become investment managers or specialists.

Investment courses are challenging and demand specific effort. The way they are structured ensure the student is fully prepared for a successful career once the course is complete. The skills that you will develop from your degree include advanced mathematical skills, analytical skills and solid business acumen.

You can choose to study investment courses at either the undergraduate or postgraduate level, with most students option to study at the graduate level. These courses can take up to two years of full time study to complete, whilst undergraduate investment courses can take up to four years of full time study to complete.

As a postgraduate course, investment courses require you to already hold a first class or 2:1 honours degree, or any relevant equivalent qualification. Your undergraduate degree should ideally be in a related field such as accounting, economics or finance. If you hold a degree in an unrelated subject, other merits of your application will be considered; the university will expect you to showcase your enthusiasm for the course through a written letter of intent, and you may also be asked to take a mathematics test to prove your numerical skills. Other requirements may apply to international students and you are advised to check with the institution you wish to apply to for further details.
Anyone who is looking to pursue a career path in investment should posses a serious work ethic; investment bankers often work long and unsociable hours. However, the base salary of £40,000 often offsets the strenuous shifts. Moreover, investment and trading degrees open you up to exciting career pathways, and opportunities are high. With your technical skill and theoretical knowledge, job opportunities include working within an established investment institutions, or working as an investment manager or specialist.
