Then get ready to immerse yourself in a different type of place. A place with tailored learning built around your interests and ideas. We are York St John University and we've been changing lives through education since 1841.

Great reasons to study at York St John University:

  • We prepare you for the future.  We are in the top 25 universities in the UK for graduate outcomes (DLHE 2017).
  • Research that matters.  Our research tackles real issues and has a positive impact on peoples' lives.
  • Best place to live in Britain. The Sunday Times named York the best place to live in Britain and our campus is right at the heart of this historic, friendly city.
  • Part of the community.  From delivering theatre workshops in prisons to working with local sports teams, we give back to the community we call home.
  • A global campus. We have students from over 100 countries currently studying with us.
  • Celebrate in style. Our students have been graduating in York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe, since 1989.
  • London Calling. We opened the doors to our London Campus in 2018, allowing our students to supercharge their studies.

Future-ready Facilities

Just a stone's throw from York city walls, our campus blends Victorian architecture with contemporary facilities to inspire, motivate and engage. We have invested over £40 million in state-of-the-art learning rooms, studios and laboratories to ensure you have everything you need to push the boundaries of what's possible and achieve your aspirations.

We believe that our campus should create an environment where you can be your best and relax with friends, that's why we have a variety of coffee shops and communal areas around campus, exhibition spaces which regularly showcase student work and award-winning outdoor spaces.

Fountains Learning Centre - the home of our library - is an outstanding resource for our students. You'll have access to this facility 24 hours a day, seven days a week during termtime and with personalised support with your research, open access to PC and Mac desktop computers with all the latest in specialist software and a student kitchen, we know that it's got everything you need to succeed.

Welcome to York

Our campus is located in the centre of York, a city steeped in history.

York Minster, the largest gothic cathedral in Northern Europe, has been the centrepiece of York's skyline since 1080. Celebrate your graduation here and be part of its history.

York's streets are lined with a mix of independent shops and cafes, well known highstreet stores and plenty of restaurants. The city also hosts an annual calendar of festivals that showcase local talent and the history of the region. These include the renowned Aesthetica Short Film Festival, the Great Yorkshire Fringe Comedy Festival, York Literature Festival, York Chocolate Festival and the JORVIK Viking Festival.

With our campus and accommodation sites located centrally, it's easy to get around York. Just a 10 minute walk from our campus, York is easily accessible by foot but if cycling is more your style then York has an extensive network of off-road cycle paths, on-road cycle lanes and over 1,000 cycle parking facilities across the city. York also has plenty of bus routes across the city and beyond with regular and reliable services provided at a reasonable price.

Fancy a weekend away? York is ideally situated in North Yorkshire, close to national parks, areas of outstanding natural beauty and dramatic coastlines. If you prefer an urban get-away then direct train lines to Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle and Edinburgh which run through the city can get you there.

We know that nightlife is important to students and York won't disappoint. York boasts a pub or club for every night of the year, from record-holding gin bars and quaint pubs dating back to 1503, to clubs with revolving dance floors, it's shaping up to be a good night in York.

Students' Union

A space to socialise, relax, and make change happen, our Students' Union (SU) is run by students for you. The SU represents all of our students and work to give you a strong voice and influence to shape life at York St John University.

The SU building is the hub of life on our campus. Located centrally it houses a cosy cafe and a beautiful bar, a place to study and relax with friends. Refurbished in 2016, it has a contemporary aesthetic which makes you feel at home.

With over 60 sports clubs and societies, you're sure to find something to suit your interests. The SU supports all of our clubs and societies and if you think we're missing something they'll help you start up your very own society.
