Overview

Intellectual Property (IP) is a fast growing area of the law, requiring highly qualified multilingual specialists who can deal with IP rights across national borders. The new LLM International Studies in Intellectual Property Law course offers a specialised programme of study that will enable you to meet the requirements of a future career in this area. 

The course covers copyright, trademark and patent law, along with its European and international aspects, as well as legal questions associated with new technologies, multimedia and cyberspace.

This course is run by the School of Law and Criminology to provide you with both the high-quality teaching and the personal attention you need to make the most of your University education.

The School of Law and Criminology teaching staff includes:

Lecturer Matteo Zambelli who is a partner in the corporate finance practice of the law firm Zambelli Tassetto, Studio Legale. His areas of expertise include securities regulations, international banking law, legal aspects of international finance and international arbitration.

Lecturer in Law Michael Derks.

Career and study progression

Graduates can seek employment with investment, law, consultancy and accounting firms, especially those that focus on international practice. 

Practising legal professionals and human resource professionals can use their qualification and the skills and knowledge they have gained on the course to progress in their chosen field.

On completing this course successfully, you can choose to continue your studies and progress on to a PhD.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

A good undergraduate degree or equivalent professional qualification with appropriate law content.

Students with three years' legal or relevant commercial work experience will also be considered subject to interviews.

Applicants with extensive work experience will be considered on a case by case basis.

International students need to meet our English language requirement at either IELTS at 6.5 or above, and a minimum of 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).
