About Economics with Finance, BSc - at University of Sheffield

The BSc Economics with Finance allows you to specialise in methodological modules with finance. You will learn rigorous quantitative and analytical skills and apply this knowledge to your analysis of economic policy.

You'll receive training in advanced methods, particularly mathematical and statistical, through the methodological pathway of modules we offer. You'll be able to apply these methods, and your knowledge of finance, to a variety of economic problems in modules in the applied pathway.

In your first year you will be introduced to foundational economic principles and theories, and develop your core quantitative skills in mathematical and statistical methods for economics. You'll then build on your toolkit of theoretical and quantitative skills in your second and final years and receive cutting-edge training in economics and finance.

Our degree is designed to give you the choice of which pathway you wish to specialise in. You will have the option to move from the BSc Economics with Finance to the BSc Economics or BA Economics in your first or second year.

At the end of your second year you will then decide if you wish to continue the BSc Economics with Finance or pursue the applied pathway (BA Economics), or the methodological pathway (BSc Economics). This will determine the modules you can choose to study in your final year.

We offer you the chance to do a year-long work placement, starting after your second year. This is a great opportunity to get paid work experience with some of the UK's top employers who want to recruit the best students from Sheffield.
