Course Information

The Postgraduate Certificate in Non-Medical Prescribing/Practice Certificate in Independent Prescribing is validated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Our course provides the main theoretical perspectives associated with evidence-based therapeutics, the consultation process, including concordance and the legal, ethical and professional issues associated with the prescribing role.

The course supports the application of theoretical knowledge to practice by incorporating a minmum of 90 hours' supervised clinical experience in which students work alongside and are assessed by their Designated Medical Practitioner (DMP). This enables students to develop their skills including the specific competencies required to prescribe safely, effectively and appropriately within their own area of professional clincial expertise.
