About Politics, MA - at University of East Anglia (UEA)

Study

This MA is designed for students who want a general introduction to Politics rather than specialisation in one particular field. It is ideal for those already with a degree in Politics who want to usefully broaden and deepen their knowledge of political science, but also flexible enough to appeal to graduates from other areas of study who wish to secure a grounding in Politics.

Structure

Students have seminars and lectures for the initial semesters, and then commence working on their dissertation. The dissertation is a very important part of this degree: students choose their topic and are allocated an individual supervisor to give advice on every aspect of its creation. The School organises a day when all postgraduates, including MA and PhD students, meet together and discuss their research, with a session for MA students to discuss their proposals.

Teaching

UEA's School of Political, Social and International Studies pride themselves on providing top-quality, research-inspired teaching with an interdisciplinary approach. Lecturers will share cutting edge information on your subject of study and provide a stimulating environment to learn. Students are taught by experts in media law, economics, political communication and identity politics.

Employability

Over the course of the MA, students develop a variety of transferable skills including debating, oral presentations, team work, project work and essay writing. All students also take a module that is specifically designed to help improve research skills, ideal for those seeking a career in research. Graduates have taken up jobs in the fields of business, teaching, policy research, government and international organisations. The career centre at UEA is an excellent resource, hosting special days for Politics students to talk to professionals working in their field.

Entry requirements

Open to applicants with a good Honours degree - UK BA (Hons) 2:1 or equivalent - in a Humanities or Social Sciences subject.
