The University of Amsterdam (UvA) is a highly ranked research university offering more than 200 English-taught degree programmes, some of which are unique to this university. Historic roots

Tracing its roots to the establishment of the Athenaeum Illustre in 1632, this modern University has a rich history. Today, the campuses are a mixture of historic Dutch architecture and contemporary buildings. Students attend classes and lectures at one of several integrated city campuses.

Top-ranked university

The UvA scores highly in world university rankings (Times Higher Education, QS World University Rankings). It is ranked among the top 20 universities in Europe and top 100 worldwide. The UvA ranks 58th in the QS ranking, making it the highest-ranked Dutch university on the list and ranked 63rd in the Times Higher World Education Rankings 2017.

Over 200 degree programmes

The University of Amsterdam offers more than 200 English-taught study programmes - one of the largest selections of any university in Europe. Students can choose from Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in a variety of subject areas including: Economics and Business, Humanities, Law, Medicine, Science, and Social and Behavioural Sciences.
