About Food Marketing Management (top up), BSc (Hons) - at Sheffield Hallam University

This degree provides you with expertise in food marketing, business management and food product design and development. It enables you to develop your analytical, critical thinking and professional skills. This is a very dynamic industry, so throughout the course there is an emphasis on fast response and creative thinking. You learn how to identify market niches and work with marketing teams and food technologists to develop products that satisfy consumer needs. You also learn how to promote products and encourage sales in a competitive environment. The business modules develop your ability to manage people, monitor and control operational performance and plan long term strategic objectives in the food industry. Your learning involves * seminars * workshops * projects * practical sessions in our modern facilities at City Campus. In year three, you can take a one year paid work placement. These placements are a valuable means of increasing your industry knowledge, employability and starting salary. We help you find a suitable placement and support you while you are there. During your one year placement you experience the food industry environment and put into practice what you have learnt. Past students have worked on placement at * Hotel Chocolat * Tesco * Northern Foods * Walt Disney * Sainsbury's * Fortnum and Mason * Haribo * Duchy Original * Unilever * ASDA. The international award puts greater emphasis on the global food industry and its markets. To gain the international award you must complete an international work placement or study specific international modules, and your final year project will have an international flavour. If you already have an advanced diploma, higher national diploma, foundation degree or equivalent qualification in this subject, you can take a one year top up course, based on the final year of this degree. This allows you to convert your qualification to an honours degree. Please see http://www.shu.ac.uk/courses/919Guest speakers may include specialists in new product development, marketing and nutrition.
