Plymouth University is a modern campus university, ideally placed in the city centre of a thriving coastal city in one of the UK’s most beautiful regions. Plymouth is located on the South West coast, nestled in the bottom corner of Devon, neighbouring Cornwall.

Originally founded in 1862, Plymouth achieved university status in 1992 and is recognised in the Times Higher Education’s 150 under 50 as one of the UK’s top 5 modern universities. It currently ranks 76th in the Guardian 2017 Rankings.

The University boasts over 26,000 students and offers a range of academic courses, including art history, business, law, dentistry, social work and mathematics. Courses are divided into five faculties.

The five faculties are;

  • Faculty of Health and Human Sciences
  • Faculty of Science and Engineering
  • Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry

Plymouth University prides itself on the excellent facilities it offers its students, and over 90% of students agreed that staff were good at explaining things in the 2016 National Student Survey.

Plymouth University was rated as one of the top 30 universities in the 2016 Whatuni Student Choice Awards, coming an impressive 27th out of 124 universities. The Students’ Union (UPSU) provides a range of social spaces for students, providing food in the day and entertainment at night. There is 160 societies to choose from, covering faith, sport, music, food and debate, so there really is something for everyone.

UPSU is student led and democratic and the high standards have been recognised through the Students’ Union Evaluation Initiative (SUEI) Bronze and Investors in Volunteers and Investors in People Gold Award.

Sports clubs vary from rowing to football and cricket, to Kayaking: utilising the best of what the outstanding surrounding area has to offer. The on-campus Sports Centre’s fitness suite has the latest equipment and boasts three of the best squash courts in Plymouth.

The University halls are both on and close to campus in the student village, and the dedicated Residence Life team are available for help and advice to make sure you find your ideal room. Various accommodation from flats to en-suite rooms are available for first year undergraduates, and there are prices to suit assorted budgets. Rooms are available from £91 per week for standard accommodation to £183 per week for a studio on a 51-week contract.
