About Education (Clinical), MPhil - at Newcastle University

Research in the School of Medical Education focuses on how we better understand and improve education within the classroom and clinical context. We especially welcome MPhil and PhD applications that are innovative and creative.

You will be based within the School of Medical Education. You will have access to research teaching from the School and the Institute of Health and Society (IHS).

You will work with experienced researchers to develop a research proposal. Attendance at taught sessions will be in your first year of study and will be agreed between you and your supervisor, depending on the requirements of the research project. You are expected to undertake 40 hours of work per week if studying full-time, with an annual holiday entitlement of 35 days (including statutory and bank holidays).

Our research is focused on improving our knowledge and understanding of health professional education within classroom and clinical environments. By focusing on the processes of learning, teaching and innovation we add to existing academic knowledge within this field. The School also has a dedicated team for the development of research within and applied specifically to the MBBS programme.

Further information about our research and staff specialisms can be found on the School website.

Our Medical Sciences Graduate School has a thriving postgraduate research culture, with additional support for international students. We have an excellent record for timely PhD submission, provide training in professional/key skills and research techniques and support personal development.
