Musicians Institute offers a wide variety of degrees and areas of concentration in the field of contemporary music.

To match the ever-changing music and entertainment landscape of the 21st Century, Musicians Institute has reorganized all its programs into a streamlined, integrated College of Contemporary Music. The School of Performance Studies includes programs for Bass, Drums, Guitar, Keyboard Technology and Vocals; while the School of Entertainment Industry Studies offers programs for Audio Engineering, Guitar Craft, Independent Artist and Music Business. With over three decades of experience, MI is constantly developing new educational and career development initiatives to serve a global music community.

Performance Programs

Musicians Institute’s challenging music performance programs are a unique combination of contemporary music performance and rigorous education in traditional music disciplines. The intensive program emphasizes the development of stylistic depth, creative maturity and professional competence in preparing students to enter the contemporary music industry.

Entertainment Industry Programs

MI’s Entertainment Industry Programs prepare graduates for music careers in today’s music industry by providing in-depth training in essential techniques as well as hands-on experience in state of the art facilities. MI’s unique all-music environment in the heart of Hollywood surrounds you with musicians of every style, offering unparalleled creative opportunities.

Alternative Programs

Our alternative music programs are designed to allow students to create full or part-time programs by choosing from available lessons, classes, workshops and other activities. Alternative programs include, 1 or 2 week Summer Shot programs, 10 week MI Select Program, 5 or 10 week MI Select Express and Extension night courses.

Summer Shot

Guitar Craft Academy Nashville

MI’s Guitar Craft program offers comprehensive training in guitar design, construction and maintenance of both electric and acoustic guitars. You’ll learn through direct experience, under the guidance of first-rank professionals, how to analyze and solve the problems encountered by working luthiers. Now Available: MI’s Residence Halls

The MI Housing Guide* provides information and assistance regarding MI residence halls, apartment rentals, FAQs, rental agreements, renters’ rights, finding roommates, budgeting for food, utilities, telephone services, where to shop, and how to get around the city. If you live in the Hollywood area, MI’s nightly Shuttle Service offers free transportation right to your door after a late night of classes, practice or rehearsal.

As an international student at Musicians Institute, you will not only receive an excellent education in contemporary music, but you will also enjoy the opportunity to build professional and personal relationships that last a lifetime. International students make up nearly one-fourth of MI’s total student population, representing more than 50 countries throughout the world while creating a unique and diverse learning environment. Elaine Faye recently had her song, "Crashing in Love," chosen as the theme song to a new show on FYI/A&E Network called Black Love. The show and song were both featured recently on ABC’s Nightline. Elaine and her band, We Are The Big Bang, also recently returned to campus for the MI Conversation Series, where they spoke about their rising career and performed a few songs. Previously, Elaine signed with music licensing firm Hype Music, a joint venture of MTV Networks and Extreme Music (Sony/ATV’s production music library). Hype Music is headed by former KCRW Music Director Nic Harcourt, who helped launch the careers of such artists as KT Tunstall, Sigur Ros, Damien Rice, Death Cab for Cutie, and Interpol. Mirkko De Maio, MI Select / Drums

Drummer Mirkko De Maio completed two MI Select sessions in 2009, and returned to his native Italy to launch an active career. In addition to working as a versatile session player in different genres, Mirkko is also a member of rock & progressive metal bands including Hangarvain, Mind Key, Exorcism and the Vivaldi Metal Project, which features top artists including legendary keyboardist Rick Wakeman. He also teaches clinics & private lessons while interviewing for top Italian magazine Drum Club. Hangarvain recently released a new album, Freaks, and kicked off a European tour in 2016. Mirkko is also an official endorser of Sonor drums, Vic Firth drumsticks, Remo drumheads & Paiste cymbals. Mirrko said that "MI’s Drum Program has amazing instructors who give you what really you need to become a pro and not just another drummer. Audrey Renning, Music Business

MI Music Business graduate Audrey Renning is currently the Client Services Manager at The Araca Group, where she oversees merchandise accounts for bands including Phantogram, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Papa Roach, The Offspring, Awolnation, AFI, and many more. During her time at MI, Audrey interned for Mercenary Management under Rob Blasko, gaining connections and experience that directly contributed to her current position at The Araca Group. Since graduating MI in 2013, she also worked at Pulse Recording, assisting songwriting and producing legends Scott Cutler and Josh Abraham. Audrey says that "learning about publishing and licensing at MI gave me an inside scoop on split sheets, pitches, and what makes a great song.
