The Course

Mathematics and physics are inextricably linked. The comprehensive grounding in mathematics offered by this programme underpins an exploration of key physics topics, including quantum theory, nuclear physics and solid state physics. While a clear understanding of the subject will be a given, employers will also be looking for the other qualities imparted through this programme, in particular numerical, analytical and problem solving skills.

Entry requirements

Year 1

  • Highers ABBBB including Mathematics at A and Physics
  • A-Levels ABB including Mathematics at A and Physics
  • Int. Baccalaureate 28 points with Mathematics and Physics at Higher Level 5
  • BTEC Extended Diploma (QCF) Level 3 at DDM including sufficient Mathematics and Physics

Year 2

  • Advanced Highers ABB including Mathematics at A and Physics plus excellent Highers or Scottish Baccalaureate
  • A-Levels AAB including Mathematics at A and Physics
  • Int. Baccalaureate 30 points with Mathematics and Physics at Higher Level 6
  • BTEC Extended Diploma (QCF) Level 3 at DDD including sufficient Mathematics and Physics

Additional information

  • To find out about the difference between the 3 and 4 year honours programmes, please watch our video to help you decide which route is best for your qualifications and experience so far.
  • Applications from students studying a relevant HNC/HND or recognised Access Programme who possess a suitable grounding or appropriate qualification in Mathematics would be welcomed.
  • We also accept the BTEC Subsidiary Diploma (QCF) at D in place of one A-Level, however it cannot replace a subject specific requirement unless relevant.
