About Photography, BA, Diploma - at Collarts

If you dream of a career as a Photojournalist, Commercial Photographer, Editor or Content Creator, working in Advertising PhotographyPortraiture, Image Management, or Domestic and Artistic Photography, this course is for you.

The Photography course is perfect for students who want to develop their technical and practical understanding and work in professional photography. You will be taught and mentored by industry experts who are currently working within many sectors of the industry including photojournalism, commercial, documentary and mobile photography.

You will undertake fundamental units in photographic technologies, portraiturecommercial photography, post-production, mobile photographydocumentaryphotojournalism, alongside units in media platforms and creative entrepreneurship

Collarts offers students a variety of real-life industry experiences so that they are career-ready when they graduate. With the opportunity to create a capstone project and undertake industry placement, students will leave the course with a well-rounded understanding of the photographic industry, both in Australia and overseas.

Entry requirements

Students must first meet the general entry requirements before progressing to the interview stage and meeting additional specific course entry requirements. 

All international student applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of commencement of study.

The academic minimum entry requirement is one of the following:

  • Completion of an Australian Year 12 Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or overseas equivalent
  • International Baccalaureate
  • Completed Australian AQF (Australian Qualifications Framework) Certificate IV
  • Completed Foundation year at any Australian Higher Education Provider
  • Completed one full-time semester at any Australian Higher Education Provider
  • Completed one full-time year at an overseas Higher Education Provider.

Meet the minimum English proficiency requirements evidenced by achieving an IELTS 6.0 (no band lower than 6.0) or equivalent

  • Applicants who do not meet the minimum English Proficiency Levels can take an intensive English course to gain the required level of proficiency at one of Collarts’ pathway provider partners.
  • All documents must be certified and translated (if originals are not in English).
