The university was previously established in 1895 as Birmingham Municipal Technical School and gained its university charter in 1966.

Admission: Applicants for admission to master's degrees must hold a good first degree. In addition, MBA: at least three years' work experience. MPhil: relevant first degree with first or upper second class honours.
MBA, MPhil, MSc
Admission: PhD: relevant first degree with first or upper second class honours.
Language of Instruction
English. Modern languages courses are partly taught in French and German, as applicable.
