Sheffield Hallam University

Sheffield Hallam University is one of Britain's largest universities, with around 30,000 students and around 4,100 staff from all over the world. We offer an impressive range of courses and state-of-the-art facilities to rival institutions worldwide.

We offer a diverse community with more than 3,000 international students from over 120 countries. We celebrate multicultural and world events throughout the year and have a Multifaith Chaplaincy providing prayer and meditation space.

Academic strengths

We have an outstanding reputation as a leader in teaching excellence with three Centres of Excellence in Teaching and Learning and 12 subject areas rated as excellent by the National Assessment Body.

We are placed in the top ten of modern universities in England by the Research Assessment Exercise, and have been awarded £5.1 million quality-related funding for research in 2009-10. Almost 70 per cent of our research was judged to be of an international standard.

Excellent facilities and learning resources

We have some of the most advanced learning and teaching facilities in the UK - more than £100 million has been invested in the last decade.

Learning Centres on each of our campuses bring together traditional library services and technologically advanced computing and multimedia facilities. They offer 24 hour access and are open seven days a week during semesters. There are around 2,700 PCs for academic use in learning centres, PC classrooms, specialist labs, cafes and social spaces around the campus. All students have their own file space and easy access to the internet via our high speed campus network.

Our specialist resources, equipment and laboratories are amongst the most modern and technically advanced in the UK and our £15 million Health and Wellbeing Building has been described as "a beacon for the future of health education in the country" by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Supporting employability

We work closely with over 25 professional bodies and with industry leaders to deliver professionally accredited courses, designed to produce highly employable graduates. We are the largest provider of work placement courses in England.

Our aim is to provide students with a high quality education which will broaden their horizons and develop their knowledge and skills for career success.

Testimonials

China, Yuan Meng, MSc Sport Business Management

Sheffield Hallam University Student

Sheffield is one of the biggest cities in England and is located in the centre of the country, so it is very convenient for travelling to other parts of the UK. It's also a good place to study because it is very peaceful and quiet. At the same time, Sheffield will not let you down if you like colourful nightlife.

The University has a brilliant International Student Support Team who can help you with everything. One of the activities is called 'local friends' in which you can visit a local family's house - I was invited to spend Christmas Day with a local family, which was a very precious experience for me.

After considerable research I found that Sheffield Hallam University stood out amongst the universities I had short-listed.

I can confidently say that the University has exceeded my expectations. The friendly people and the exciting social life have left me spellbound. The university played its part by assisting me every step of the way in finding a place to stay.

Right from the Meet and Greet service to arranging trips to York and Manchester, the University has done everything possible to help international students like myself feel at home.

Sheffield Hallam University Student

I have always wanted to do my Masters in the UK. Nevertheless, the thought of leaving my family and going to another country filled me with apprehension. When I arrived all these feelings vanished as the staff and student ambassadors were friendly and convinced me that my stay was going to be a pleasant one.

From the content of the course and my experience in the UK, I will be armed with knowledge that I will take back to my home country to try and make a difference. I have made lots of friends and it excites me to know that after completing this course, I will have former classmates from all over the globe.
